Mental Health Support Worker
Are you passionate about mental health advocacy? Do you have a drive to help others? We are looking for a mature and experienced individual to join the team of mental health support workers at Reach Out as we expand to the Goulburne region.
As a mental health support worker, you will be required to use a variety of evidence-based approaches, helping support individuals to live a satisfying life while assisting their mental health recovery.
Your role will be to provide vital daily living assistance towards participants with complex support needs, allowing participants to integrate and engage safely into the community. With encouragement and mentoring, you will support our participants to maintain their independence by promoting social, vocational, and living skills.
How you can help
Reach Out offers different kinds of support depending on our participants’ needs, including but not limited to:
- Assisting our participants experiencing mental illness to attend peer and other support groups
- Provide safe and supportive access to the community
- Assist in building supportive relationships with individuals, their care team and families.
- Emotional and crisis support
- Access to other support services and provide multi-level support during clinical consultations
- Assist participants in developing their daily living abilities
- Mentoring participants to establish daily routines and life skills, education, health and fitness and work skills and other duties as directed.
Using a person-centred approach you will help those living with a mental illness to maximise their independence and confidence.
Essential requirements
- High degree of empathy and conscientiousness
- Excellent organisational skills
- Calm and approachable demeaner
- Can work independently and as part of a team
- Minimum 1 year’s experience in support work highly advantageous
- Experience working in hospitality, retail or community services sectors
- An understanding of the NDIS
- Experience working within Mental Health
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders within a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated ability to work reliably, remain punctual and work under limited direct supervision
- Unrestricted permanent rights to work in Australia.
- Current unrestricted Australian Driver License
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications, or willingness to obtain one.
- Current unrestricted Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) clearance or willingness to obtain one.
