The City of Subiaco is going through a transformation with significant change and evolution in terms of residential options, the commercial sector, retail, entertainment, leisure and recreation. Navigating this change in partnership with the community, business and stakeholders, whilst also celebrating Subiaco's heritage, history and culture is an exciting challenge.

This role sits in the Planning team and plays a key part in facilitating the orderly and proper development of the City of Subiaco, within the guidelines of accepted town planning practices.

The key responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Assist the Coordinator Planning Services in the administration of the Local Planning Scheme and planning policies
  • Undertake preliminary assessments of new development proposals to identify potential planning issues
  • Meet and negotiate, where necessary, with applicants, landowners and neighbours with respect to applications for development approval
  • Investigate unauthorised activities and complaints within the City relating to planning matters
  • Attend DAP meetings and represent the City administration during consideration of DAP processes
  • Assist the Manager Planning Services and Coordinator Planning Services in the preparation of appropriate planning policies and major planning studies/projects
  • Prepare correspondence and reports in relation to applications for review lodged with the State Administrative Tribunal and attend to SAT matters where necessary
  • Prepare reports for consideration by Council
  • Assist the Strategic Planning Team and provide strategic advice/input where necessary
  • Other duties as required

Essential Criteria

  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to write concise and accurate reports and convey complex arguments to a wide audience
  • Considerable expertise in development control and an ability to negotiate and liaise with developers and the community, with experience dealing with significant and complex development applications
  • Considerable experience and knowledge of current WA Planning and related legislation, policies and procedures including development control, local planning scheme, subdivision and policy application
  • Considerable experience of both applications for review with the State Administrative Tribunal and Local Planning Scheme Amendment procedures
  • Completed tertiary qualifications in planning or a related discipline

Salary Package

From $103,740 to $111,790 per annum, plus 11.5% employer superannuation and additional co-contribution to your superannuation.
