Warmline is a peer-led, non-clinical suicide prevention phone service for those who have attempted suicide, are struggling with suicidal thoughts, or are at risk. Guided by your personal lived experience, our peer workers offer understanding, compassion, and support in a shared space of trust and respect.

About the opportunity

Warmline Suicide Prevention Peer Workers provide a safe space where callers feel heard, validated, and supported. They assist with coping strategies, safety planning, and navigating local or online resources.

Callers can request a callback from a peer worker for support with their distress, concerns, or worries. The Suicide Prevention Team Leader will match them with a suitable peer worker, who will reach out within 48 business hours to arrange a time for a conversation. Callers can choose a one-time call or up to eight weekly scheduled calls for ongoing support.

The shift times for this role will be 1:30pm-8pm on Tuesday to Friday and 10am-2pm on Sunday (penalty rates apply).

About you

In this role, you'll provide compassionate support to participants during both initial and scheduled outreach calls. You'll offer helpful information, referrals, and ongoing guidance, while building strong, trusting relationships that help participants find hope, develop a positive identity, and build a meaningful life.

You'll engage with callers to discuss their distress or suicidality and work together on safety planning. Your Team Leader will be there to support you the whole way!

To be successful in this role, you will need:

About Wellways

Benalla, VIC, Australia

Wellways Australia Limited is a leading not-for-profit mental health and disability support organisation with services in Queensland, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria and Tasmania. Our services span mental health, disability and community care, and reach thousands of people each year.

We work with a diverse range of people living with mental health issues or various disabilities, and their families, friends and carers, to bring about positive change and build good lives in their communities. This can include creating a home, securing a job and building meaningful relationships.

Our mental health, disability and rehabilitation services bring together evidence from research with an understanding of people’s lived experience—what works for them. Our mental health workforce includes clinicians, nurses, community support workers and ‘peers’—those who have a lived experience of mental illness and recovery. Together, they create an environment that focuses on hope rather than illness.

We work in partnership with people and their families to identify their own needs and goals and support them to attain a great life in the community. Our partnerships extend to clinicians, GPs, hospitals, community health organisations and government, ensuring that our services and programs reach people in the communities in which they live.
