Position Title: Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Clinician
Location: Northam

Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Clinician to provide essential support and service coordination for young people at risk of mental illness and/or suicide. In this role, you will help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of mental health and suicide prevention services for young people aged 12-25, focusing on enhancing service integration and access for young people and their families.
The position will be based in Northam, with an expectation of community-based activities across the Wheatbelt region, including outreach consultations and telehealth as needed. You will deliver culturally appropriate mental health support services while ensuring collaboration with relevant stakeholders and take a family and community-centred approach to service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Service Delivery:
- Respond promptly and appropriately to young people at risk of suicide within 7 days of referral.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to determine suitable care pathways, risk severity, and needs.
- Advocate for young people's social and emotional wellbeing, ensuring access to services without cultural or other barriers.
- Provide culturally safe, trauma-informed support to young people and their families, both in person and via telehealth, in both individual and group settings.
- Collaborate with Emergency Departments, General Practitioners, Community Mental Health Services, and other relevant agencies to ensure a coordinated service response.
- Support families in safety planning and psychoeducation.
- Maintain accurate, timely case records and participate in clinical case reviews to ensure appropriate care pathways.
- Adhere to professional clinical standards and relevant legislation.
- Provide specialist advice on youth mental health to partner organisations and co-located services.
- Building Partnerships for Change:
- Engage in an integrated care model, partnering with various health and community services.
- Work proactively to strengthen partnerships and referral pathways with local agencies, schools, and service providers.
- Represent the organisation at community events and network meetings, promoting mental health awareness and reducing stigma.
- Support community education and engagement activities to enhance wellbeing and social support.
- Other Duties:
- Complete service data collection and reports as required.
- Participate in personal, professional, and team development activities.
- Contribute to the development and evaluation of mental health programs and initiatives.
- Adhere to all organisation policies, including Work Health and Safety requirements and the Code of Conduct.
Key Competencies & Requirements:
- Experience & Knowledge:
- Minimum of three years' experience in mental health, ideally in a specialist youth mental health setting.
- Experience in both clinical and outreach/co-location environments.
- Expertise in trauma-informed care and working with young people in complex psychosocial situations.
- Experience providing culturally secure and family-inclusive services.
- Competency in conducting psychosocial and suicide risk assessments.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Advanced computer skills in word processing, databases, and electronic recording systems.
- Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree of Social Work or equivalent.
- Current full membership and/or registration with a professional body.
- Cultural safety training or demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Other Requirements:
- Passion for working with young people and a commitment to their wellbeing.
- Understanding and appreciation for diversity in both the workforce and client base.
