Windgap is looking for an experienced part-time Work Health & Safety (WHS) Officer to champion safety in our organisation.
The Role:
As the WHS Officer, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing Windgap’s Work Health and Safety framework. You will partner with various teams to identify risks, implement proactive safety initiatives, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and industry best practices. This role is vital in driving a culture of continuous improvement in WHS across all Windgap services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and review Windgap’s WHS framework and management system
- Identify hazards and develop solutions to improve safety for employees, participants, and visitors
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies for physical and psychosocial hazards
- Design and coordinate WHS training programs for employees and management
- Provide WHS support for building and maintenance projects
- Conduct internal safety audits and address non-conformances from external audits
- Monitor, record, and investigate incidents, accidents, hazards, and near-misses
- Lead the WHS Committee and facilitate proactive safety discussions
- Generate safety analytics and recommend strategies to reduce workplace injuries
- Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission Standards, and industry codes of practice.
Essential Criteria:
- Tertiary qualifications in WHS or a related field (or significant WHS experience in lieu of formal qualifications)
- Demonstrated project management skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Strong commitment to inclusion and safety for people with disabilities
- Ability to influence and negotiate effectively
- Ability to identify organisational risks and recommend WHS improvements
- Self-motivated, resourceful, and diligent with a proactive mindset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Teams, Excel, Word, etc.)
- Eligible to apply for an NDIS worker check
- Valid and current driver’s license.
Desirable:
- Experience in disability services or a health-related sector
- Understanding of the NDIS and the associated risks for clients and workers
- Familiarity with change management principles.
