Join the team at the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network in the Speech Pathology Department of the Division of Rehabilitation, Aged and Palliative Care.

The Senior Speech Pathologist role has a strong focus on leading and mentoring staff in management of communication in Dementia, Multi-D support and Ageing with management of complex behaviours and support of families, teams and surrounding communities. There will be an opportunity to revise the Speech Pathology Model of Care in order to take advantage of current research in Dementia and the role of SP.

About the Role:

  • Champion Communication: Play a pivotal role in advancing communication strategies for elderly individuals, particularly those living with dementia.
  • Collaborate for Better Care: Work alongside transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary teams to ensure the best outcomes for patients and families. Your expertise will influence both team approaches and broader community practices.
  • Revise Care Models: Lead initiatives to revise and implement care models, utilising the latest dementia research and evidence-based practices.
  • Support Families and Teams: Provide much-needed support to families and healthcare teams, fostering a compassionate and effective environment for everyone involved.
  • Influence Multi-disciplinary Practices: Bring a strong background in geriatrics and multi-disciplinary support to ensure holistic, comprehensive care for each individual.

About you:

  • An Appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification which gives eligibility for full membership of the Speech Pathology Association of Australia.
  • Extensive experience working with adult patients with swallowing and communication disorders resulting from medical, surgical or neurological condition.
  • Experience in the training and supervision of staff or students.
  • Experience in collecting, analysing and interpreting data, and making appropriate recommendations and high level professional skills relevant to speech pathology practice.
