The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is looking to fill the positions of Field Interviewers (Affirmative Measure – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples). We are looking for people to approach household addresses who have been selected to complete an ABS survey. Interviews might be conducted face to face in a respondent's home, or over the phone from your home office.

This role is only open to people that identify and are recognised as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, under the Affirmative Measures Guidelines. This is your opportunity to play a critical role in ensuring the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander voice and needs are embedded into our work outputs.

About the role

Interviewers are the public face of the ABS and have an important role in building strong relationships with the public.

All household interviews are conducted using a notebook computer. You will need to be competent with computers. Full training in the use of ABS software and systems is provided.

Interviewers must maintain the strictest confidentiality and security in respect of all information collected and survey materials used. An Interviewer is engaged as an employee of the ABS under s16(2) of the Australian Bureau of Statistics Act 1975 in accordance with Regulation 7 of the Statistics Regulations 2016 and is legally bound to protect the privacy of the information collected.

Interviewers are employed outside the Australian Public Service (APS) but must behave in a manner consistent with the APS Values, Employment Principles and Code of Conduct.

You need to have access to a reliable, fully insured vehicle and hold a current Australian driver's license
