As a Disability Support Worker, you'll be at the forefront of empowering individuals with disabilities to live their lives to the fullest. You'll play a crucial role in implementing tailored training and support services designed to enhance their living, employment, social, and recreational skills. Community inclusion, independence, decision-making, and personal choice should be promoted through these supports, with a focus on individual needs.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
A s a Disability Support Worker, your primary responsibilities will include providing care and support to clients in accordance with their personalised care plans. The specific duties are subject to the type of shift and may include:
- Personal Tasks: Assisting NDIS participants with personal care requirements.
- Domestic Assistance: Supporting NDIS participants with household tasks.
- Respite: Providing respite care as needed.
- Social Support: Engaging NDIS participants in social activities.
- Mental Health Support: Provide mental health support to NDIS participants, offering emotional support, active listening, and guidance in coping strategies as needed.
- Transport: Assisting with transportation needs.
- Meal Preparation: Preparing and assisting with meals.
- Group Participation: Facilitating group activities.
- Community Participation: Encouraging community engagement.
- Life Skills Development: Supporting the deve lopment of life skills.
- Shift Reporting: Submitting detailed shift reports in a timely manner.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
To be successful in this role, you must possess the following qualifications and requirements:
- Certifications: Cert III Individual Support, Cert IV in Disability, Mental Health, Aged Care, Community Services, Disability Work, or similar.
- Documentation: Current WWCC, Criminal Record Check, and First Aid Certificate.
- Driver's L icense: Valid driver's license.
- Vehicle: Reliable and comprehensively insured vehicle.
- NDIS Workers Screening Check: Completion of the NDIS Workers Screening Check.
- Technology: Smart phone for effective communication and planning, and access to relevant software for shifts.
- Language: Clear English speaking proficiency.
Please note that only candidates meeting all of the above qualifications and requirements will be considered for this position.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 6 months relevant experience in mental health support.
- Experience in supporting people with disabilities is essential.
- Demonstrated continuing professional development in relevant areas.
- Knowledge of continuous quality improvement principles is preferred.
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Rapport Building: Ability to build rapport and trust with clients.
- Time Manage ment: Strong time management and ability to prioritise.
- Technical Skills: Ability to use Microsoft Office suite of programs and other computer systems for record keeping.
- Problem Solving: Excellent problem-solving and conflict management skills.
- Teamwork: Ability to work as part of a team and maintain good working relationships.
