Are you a dedicated, passionate case worker with experience in providing holistic trauma and violence informed care on an outreach basis?
Want to make a real difference by supporting people who identify as female and non-binary impacted by the criminal justice system?
We’d love to hear from you!

As a Case Worker on our Miranda Project, you’ll be at the heart of a high-impact team. Supported by your team leader and teammates, you’ll use holistic case management to provide specialist case management support for people who identify as female or non-binary with complex needs who are leaving NSW Correctional Centres, seeking bail or community-based sentences as an alternative to custodial sentences.

As this is an identified role, you will be required to work in culturally appropriate ways in recognition of the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in custody and the unique cultural needs of this group. You will also support clients and their families to have needs met in a culturally appropriate manner including ability to engage in culturally appropriate practice, protocols and community engagement.
Using a throughcare model focusing on providing a continuum of support aimed to address the complex and diverse unmet needs of people who have experienced victimisation and involvement with the criminal justice system, your role includes project and client support, creating community connections for clients, data, administrative and assessment duties and cultural safety.

CRC works with some of the state’s most stigmatised and marginalised people, and we are dedicated to providing them with the help they need. While our work can sometimes be challenging, the rewards are significant. In this role you may be working with some confronting issues as statistically people on release are at a higher risk of overdose or suicide, greater risk of death due to interpersonal violence and greater exposure to traumatic events. While there are many levels of support for staff, this work requires someone with high levels of resilience in the face of adversity.

Your usual work hours will be Monday to Friday, with occasional out-of-hours work, as required.

Why work for us?

  • Support programs that aim to break entrenched cycles of disadvantage, homelessness and imprisonment
  • Be part of a community-based agency that has been delivering effective services in our field for over 70 years
  • Join a dedicated, energetic team with a culture of trust, integrity and respect
  • Be part of a flexible and supportive workplace including benefits such as wellbeing leave
  • Access the support of cultural supervision for First Nations staff

To join us, you’ll need:

  • To identify as female
  • To identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • Experience and skills in the provision of trauma-informed care
  • Knowledge and experience of working with women with complex and compounding needs such as homelessness, criminal justice system involvement, alcohol and other drug use, mental health and experiences of trauma
  • A current NSW Driver Licence
  • A current NSW Working with Children Check and Criminal Record Check (please note, a criminal record is not a barrier to being considered for a role with CRC)
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and knowledge of issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and CALD communities
  • Knowledge and skills relating to child development, current child protection issues and legislation.
  • The unrestricted right to work in Australia

Why we're requesting police checks for this role
We request these checks as they are a requirement of the funding contract covering this position. Additionally, anyone entering a correctional centre must undertake a criminal records check to gain authority to enter. Please note, however, that having a criminal record is not a barrier to being considered for a role with CRC.
