The Opportunity

The APVMA’s People and Culture team is seeking applications for an Assistant Director People Strategy and Culture to design, develop and implement contemporary, business aligned strategic workforce initiatives.

Located in either Canberra ACT or regional Armidale NSW, you will gain experience in the Australian Public Service, have access to a variety of flexible working arrangements, and hone your experience across a range of areas including strategic workforce planning, diversity and inclusion, leadership, capability development and employee engagement.

The Role

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the Assistant Director People Strategy and Culture provides proactive strategic and operational HR advice and support by working in partnership with business areas. The Assistant Director People Strategy and Culture will lead a small team to ensure the APVMA’s HR strategies and practices are people-centred and in line with contemporary practices.

The Assistant Director is responsible for providing expertise across a range of HR services and will set the strategic priorities for the People and Culture section to deliver HR strategies and initiatives.

To be a strong contender for the role, you will have:

  1. Expertise in developing and delivering a broad range of contemporary workforce and organisational development solutions that deliver sustainable outcomes.
  2. Demonstrated ability to effectively engage and influence diverse stakeholders, maintaining a professional and constructive working relationship to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
  3. Demonstrated capability to navigate ambiguity, lead change and manage projects to provide innovative and effective strategic workforce solutions.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to facilitate workshops, negotiate and communicate with influence.
  5. Demonstrated ability to manage and lead team performance and uphold a commitment to continuous improvement to deliver on strategic and operational objectives.
  6. Confidently leading by example and displaying appropriate professional and inclusive behaviour in the workplace.
