As the Director of the HCI Hub, you will play a pivotal role in creating a dynamic environment that connects research, industry, and student experience in the rapidly evolving field of Human-Computer Interaction. You will lead the development of innovative courses, project-based learning initiatives, and real-world learning experiences that engage students from diverse disciplines. You will develop partnerships to drive meaningful learning and research opportunities based on the latest industry needs, aligned with the broader education and research strategies of the School of Computing Technologies.

About the Role

  • Lead and Innovate: Shape the strategic direction of the HIGT Hub, developing an innovative learning environment that connects students from a range of discipline backgrounds with cutting-edge HCI and games technologies topics leading to real-world impact.
  • Design Impactful Curriculum: Create and implement courses and project-based learning initiatives that are rooted in industry requirements, providing coursework students with human-centric technology insights and opportunities to create new solutions and explore impacts in the realm of HCI.
  • Foster Industry Partnerships: Build and strengthen relationships with industry partners to ensure that the Hub's research and learning initiatives are closely aligned with the evolving needs of the HCI sector.
  • Develop a Leading Research Program: Grow a robust research agenda with significant industry impact in HCI, securing funding, and building sustainable support for a diverse research team.
  • Collaborate Across the University: Work closely with School of Computing Technologies staff, other Hubs and Centres, and other parts of the University to expand the reach and influence of the Hub's research and educational offerings.
  • Enhance the Student Experience: Provide students with exceptional learning opportunities that enhance their experience, improve industry interaction, and position them to succeed in the HCI field.

What We're Looking For:

  • Established academic/research career in Human-Computer Interaction at Level D or E.
  • Demonstrated strengths in creating effective learning environments for a diverse range of students, including through project-based learning.
  • Significant professional standing in the discipline area of Human-Computer Interaction.
  • Evidence of effective partnerships with industry, government, and/or community partners leading to impact.
  • Extensive experience in attracting significant external funding as well as capacity to develop successful competitive grant applications for research and/or innovation.
  • Experience with leading and managing teams, effectively coordinating the integration of resources, processes, systems, people and policies.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills and demonstrated capacity work collaboratively and collegially.
  • Capacity to influence positive change within a complex organisational setting.
  • Proven breadth and depth of research experience with a significant record of achievement of human-computer interaction and/or games technologies, including a substantial track record of publications such as research monographs and/or edited books, articles in referred journals, research reports or equivalent project-based research.
  • Extensive experience in supervising graduate research students and staff to deliver outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing and reviewing strategic initiatives.

Qualifications
Relevant postgraduate qualification and relevant industry experience, with membership of associations/accreditations that are applicable to the role. Maintaining a valid Working with Children Check is condition of employment at RMIT University.
