About the Opportunity

The Lutheran Church of Australia and New Zealand (LCANZ) is seeking a Community Officer (Compliance, Case Management & Reporting) to join the Professional Standards team based in Adelaide, South Australia. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the safety and integrity of the LCANZ community by handling complaints, managing compliance, and supporting stakeholders across the organization.

Reporting to the Professional Standards Manager, this full-time position involves responding to inquiries and complaints, assisting with compliance matters, and working within the National Redress Scheme for survivors of institutional child abuse. The role requires an agile approach with high degree of emotional intelligence, professionalism, and discretion, ensuring that LCANZ’s policies and ethical standards are upheld at all times.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage complaints and inquiries lodged with the Professional Standards team, in line with LCANZ’s policies and procedures
  • Respond to allegations, reports, and disclosures of child-related harm, abuse, or concerning behavior
  • Liaise with the National Redress Scheme and assist with all aspects of LCANZ’s participation
  • Support local ministry leaders in implementing risk assessment and management processes
  • Develop and prepare resources and tools to help ministries meet their legal, regulatory, and ethical responsibilities
  • Maintain detailed records, ensure confidentiality, and adhere to best practices in compliance and governance
  • Engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including clergy, legal representatives, community leaders, and survivors
About You

To excel in this role, you should demonstrate a strong conviction in conveying beliefs with empathy and analytical insight. You must be able to navigate complex and sensitive matters with neutrality and discretion while working independently and fostering a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

Additionally, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in law, paralegal, psychology, counselling, mediation, social work, or another relevant field
  • Experience in compliance, regulatory, or professional standards roles
  • Strong knowledge of legislation and regulations relating to safeguarding and complaints handling
  • Excellent organisational and strategic planning skills
  • High-level listening, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion, particularly regarding sensitive information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, particularly SharePoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Commitment to the values of LCANZ and an understanding of its mission and culture

The successful candidate must obtain a valid Working With Children Check before commencing employment.

  • Active member of the Lutheran Church or another Christian denomination.
  • A sound understanding of LCANZ's structure, people, and culture.
