ABOUT THE ROLE
The Assistant Director supports AMSA’s regional and multilateral engagement and providing advice on treaty obligations and maritime policy issues.
You will be responsible for:
- Developing strategic policy advice on maritime issues
- Providing advice on draft text for treaties, memoranda of understanding and resolutions
- Supporting capacity building programs to improve implementation of international maritime standards in our region
- Supporting Australia’s campaign for election to IMO Council in 2023
- Supporting AMSA’s technical delegations to international meetings
- Stakeholder consultation and engagement.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
To be successful in this position, you will have the following skills and experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in law, international relations, strategic policy, government, stakeholder engagement or other relevant qualification or equivalent relevant experience
- Demonstrated experience in providing high quality advice in tight timeframes,
- Strong negotiation, written and oral communication skills with the capability to present information that is clear, concise and readily understood by a variety of audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others as part of a team and engage with stakeholders.
- Understanding of, or ability to quickly develop an understanding of, the public sector environment and Ministerial relationship.
- Ability to gain and maintain a NV1 security clearance.
An understanding of the maritime industry and Australia’s maritime interests would be an advantage.
