Role: Title Group Facilitator
Team: Toowoomba (Regional Team)
Location: Toowoomba (occasional travel to Brisbane will be required).
Level: Level 5 Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award
$97,377.80 - $101,787.92 (pro-rata) (depending on experience), plus leave loading and superannuation. Salary sacrificing is available.
Reports to: Team Leader, Toowoomba.
Contract: Part-time 3 days per week, 12 Months Fixed-Term. Occasional out of hours work will be required.

Role Purpose
Our Regional Toowoomba Team supports individuals, families, and communities from refugee backgrounds to heal, belong, thrive, and restore their sense of justice in our community. The primary purpose of this role is to work with people from refugee backgrounds contributing to the creation and delivery of groups and initiatives to enable meaningful trauma recovery outcomes. In addition, you will work with communities, to co-design and deliver community-based healing activities focusing on trauma recovery across mind, body and spirit and incorporate connection to family, culture, community and place.

We are looking for an engaging Group Facilitator who is passionate about supporting refugees and people seeking asylum in their recovery from trauma, healing and thriving.
We are looking for someone who could create a welcoming, culturally safe and engaging atmosphere to be able to build rapport and appropriately engage with people from diverse backgrounds to understand their recovery needs. You will be compassionate, adaptable and courageous in providing group interventions that support safety, healing and thriving for people from refugee backgrounds.
You will build strong, trusting relationships with people to understand their vision for a better future. You will be compassionate and patient, understanding the challenges of people form refugee backgrounds.

The successful candidate will also be committed to human rights and believe in social justice irrespective of differences related to gender, age, culture, religion, sexuality, disability, socio-economic status or political opinion.
Responsibilities
- Co-develop and facilitate groups that achieve outcomes related to healing, belonging, thriving and justice. Delivery includes planning and implementation of group sessions and programs as well as facilitating the participation of clients (invitation, welcome, coordination of transport if required and in-between follow-up)
- Alongside group participants, deliver and evaluate group interventions which support trauma recovery for participants and strengthen the confidence and capacity of the community in which they belong.
3. Identify group participants with additional needs and vulnerability and facilitate referral to more intensive support when appropriate
4.Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with people from refugee backgrounds and other community members to ensure effective group work delivery which suits the needs and preferences of participants.
5. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with QPASTT team members and partnerships with stakeholders, including community leaders (established, emerging, formal and informal), to enable effective co-facilitation of group work interventions.
6. Provide support to interpreters and bicultural peer workers who are casually engaged to support the delivery of group work and other community-based activities.
7. Ensure quality service delivery, including accountability with contractual requirements. Prepare appropriate documentation and reports, maintain files, records, statistics and evaluation data.
8. Abide by the vision and values of QPASTT, including our Code of Conduct as well as the policies and procedures of the organisation.
9. Support research and evaluation initiatives of the organisation.
Requirements
1. Ability to apply QPASTT’s healing, belonging, thriving and justice framework to group work programs.
2. Degree level qualifications and experience in a relevant human service area (overseas experience will be assessed), such as social work, psychology, community development, occupational therapy, human services etc.
3. Demonstrated understanding of the refugee experience, including settlement, trauma recovery frameworks and the impact on wellbeing.
4. Experience in and ability to lead planning, implementation/delivery and evaluation of group work programs, such as psycho-education programs and workshops.
5. Ability to work in partnership with communities and other service providers to develop innovative strategies for group work.
6. Sound stakeholder relationship and liaison skills, particularly with referral agencies and community members.
7. High level of communication and interpersonal skills, including written and oral, consultation, negotiation, advocacy, presentation and liaison.
8. Demonstrated professionalism within the workplace, including ethical decision making; exhibiting reliability and initiative; and contributing to a diverse workplace culture of respect and flexibility.
9. Desirable – lived refugee experience.
10. Desirable – Experience working with individuals and families from refugee and/or multicultural backgrounds.
Conditions of Employment
1. Current Positive Notice Blue Card and provision of an annual federal police check.
2. Current Queensland C Class driver’s license.
3. Flexibility to work out of standard hours.
4. Travel to other office locations in Queensland.
5. Eligibility to work in Australia.
6. The period of probation will be six months.
