Product Development Engineer

Position Summary

The Product Development Engineer will Utilise CAD software and FEA to optimise designs for production efficiency while working within budgets. This role is responsible for converting product ideas into functional prototypes using efficient and cost-effective processes. The Product Development Engineer is responsible for preparing design briefs, researching production methods, and collaborating with stakeholders including Customers, Sales, Purchasing, Suppliers, Production and the Engineering team.

This position reports to the Technical Manager.

General Functions

• Conduct engineering design assignments within defined parameters and standards as directed.
• Manage projects from quotation through to production.
• Prepare design drawings and models for a diverse range of components and tooling.
• Analyse customer problems and model behaviour to determine product performance requirements.
• Perform detailed non-linear finite element analysis as required.
• Prepare product designs with supporting calculations.
• Assist with detailed drawing of tooling and products as needed.
• Assist in the preparation of technical details for sales inquiries, quotations, contract documentation, technical literature or in the analysis of failures following customer complaints.
• Liaise with production engineers regarding manufacture of designed products.
• Liaise with suppliers and clients concerning the design, installation and commissioning of assigned work.
• Supervise the construction and testing of off-tool samples.
• Determine test regimes and test in-house prototype designs and external samples.
• Mackay is an ISO accredited manufacturer and a member of the Defence Industry Security Program, and we take all aspects of quality, security, and compliance very seriously. Accordingly, you will either already have a Government issued Security clearance at Baseline or above or the eligibility and willingness to obtain one.
