About the role
Mater is seeking a highly motivated Clinical Coder to join our Clinical Coding Services team on a permanent part time basis, 16 hours per week. The role is required to work onsite based at our Mater Private Hospital Townsville.
You will have the chance to participate in clinical coding across a wide variety of specialties, for both public and private patients. The Clinical Coding Service seeks to enable the best possible outcomes for Mater patients and clinicians by employing health information management best practice to facilitate quality health information.
Salary range: $45.81 - $50.46 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
This role will eventually code across all Maters and is based at Mater’s Townsville Campus. The role will involve:
- Accurately assign specific morbidity and procedural classification to patient episodes to meet data reporting requirements
- Code inpatient episodes in accordance with Australian Coding Standards
- Meet standards of coding accuracy and awareness of DRG assignment and the impact on potential funding
- Identification of unclear or ambiguous documentation and subsequent initiation of coding queries
- Participate in coding audit, quality and education to expand coding skills
- Apply the principles of confidentiality, privacy and security with the medical environment
About you
The successful candidate will have a HIMAA Introductory/Intermediate Clinical Coding Course/Certificate 1V in Clinical Classification (or equivalent). They will also have:
- Up to date Clinical Coding knowledge using ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS
- Experience using 3M Encoder
- Strong organisation skills in planning, prioritising and managing workloads
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment
- Understanding of private sector funding models (Desirable)
- Experience using Webpas, iPM, and scanned medical records (Desirable)
