Healthcare Australia (HCA) is a major provider of healthcare services across Australia, including allied health, primary care, recruitment, NDIS, care services, and training.

In December 2024, we commenced providing health, mental health and wellbeing services across the onshore Immigration Detention network. Our team, which includes nurses, general practitioners, and allied health professionals, offer a wide range of healthcare services to detainees, such as triaging, medication, wound management, immunisation, and other clinical procedures. HCA also introduced a Virtual Care Centre (VCC), a 24/7 service that provides remote healthcare through telehealth and video consultations, helping to enhance onsite care for detainees.

Job Description

We have part-time and full-time positions available.

Join us in bringing a new approach to medical and wellbeing care for detainees by:

• Work in collaboration with the primary health care team to ensure a multidisciplinary, coordinated, evidence based and integrated approach to service delivery.
• Participate in the assessment, planning and implementation of care based on individual detainee needs incorporating a holistic, recovery orientated approach to mental health care and service delivery.
• Ensure participation in relevant training and professional development for supporting high quality nursing.
• Provide mental health interventions relating to the management of mental health symptoms, physical health monitoring whilst initiating treatment and therapeutic interventions, as clinically indicated.
• Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of primary mental health services and mental health outcomes of detainees.
• Undertake the timely completion of mental health assessments including formulation, risk assessment, psychological treatment, crisis intervention, crisis management plans, outcome measures, documentation of progress in the electronic medical record system, discharge summaries and other required documentation and activities as required.

• It is an important criteria for this Commonwealth project that you have 5+ years RN experience or Under the terms of our contract with the Department of Home Affairs our talented RN’s must have 5 years of nursing experience prior to joining.
• Your credibility in the detention sector, political savviness and impressive communication skills are all key capabilities to be successful. Our ideal candidate will be someone who can inspire a strong understanding of the principles and issues relevant to coordinated, multidisciplinary team approaches in the provision of mental health services.

Qualifications

• General unrestricted registration by AHPRA as Registered Nurse (Division 1)
• Post-graduate qualification in mental health that is University issued and is at an Australian Qualification Framework level 8 or higher.
