Position Overview:
We are seeking compassionate and experienced Mental Health Support Worker's to join our team across the Newcastle region. In this role, you will work closely with clients who have complex mental health diagnoses such as Schizophrenia, Borderline Personality Disorder, drug-induced psychosis, Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD), and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). You will provide essential support in managing challenging behaviors and promoting the emotional and physical well-being of our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide person-centered care and support to individuals with complex mental health needs.
- Support clients in managing behaviors such as self-harm, property damage, verbal and physical aggression, suicidal ideation, social withdrawal, substance use, and impulsive decision-making.
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including therapists, social workers, and medical professionals, to implement individualized care plans.
- Monitor and record clients' progress, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
- Foster a safe and supportive environment for clients, promoting positive behaviors and healthy relationships.
- Offer emotional support and guidance to clients.
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques when necessary.
- Stay up-to-date with best practices in mental health support and contribute to continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Experience working with individuals with complex mental health diagnoses.
- Familiarity with managing challenging behaviors, including self-harm, aggression, and substance abuse.
- Confidence and comfortability to provide personal care to clients in a dignified way.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Empathy, patience, and the ability to handle challenging situations calmly.
- Relevant qualifications in mental health or social care are preferred.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including active awake night shifts and weekends.
- Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
