Royal Australian Air Force
Posted 12 days ago
Your role:
A Gap Year in the Air Force gives you an exciting taste of life in the ADF with just one year’s commitment. You’ll get paid for meaningful work, receive full Air Force training, and enjoy memorable experiences – unlike anything you’d encounter in most gap year jobs.
As an Administration Assistant in the Air Force, you'll take on a wide range of important organisational duties to help keep the ADF running smoothly, efficiently, and expertly trained. Using computerised human resource programs and other office-based technology, your team will be the first point of contact for Air Force members seeking administrative advice and information.
Your 12-month experience is divided into stages. First, you’ll get paid to learn the military and job-specific skills you need for your role. Then you’ll post to a unit to apply your newly learned skills and may have opportunities to travel around Australia to take part in domestic exercises and operations. Throughout your experience, you’ll be supported by professional and enthusiastic Air Force personnel.
After finishing your Gap Year program, you can choose to continue a career in the Air Force or you can use your new skills and experiences in future careers outside the ADF.
Your duties may include:
- people management – assisting members and commanders with the interpretation of policies and processing of applications
- personnel operations – planning staff positions for exercises and operations
- air and ground operations – working with squadron executives, flying crew, maintenance staff and base services on the coordination of unit operations
- resource and knowledge management – delivering coordination, management, performance and governance of the Air Force’s financial, human and knowledge resources
- communication effects – drafting and distributing communication messages for internal and external channels (including website content and social media platforms).

- Receive world-class training
- Make lifelong friends
- Enjoy a good salary package
- 16.4% superannuation – huge 4.9% over the Australian standard
