Keith War Memorial Community Kindergarten and Childcare Centre is a 62-place integrated site with spacious play areas, catering to children from birth to 12 years old. Additionally, a Kindy program operates alongside childcare two days a week. The childcare component of the centre operates five days a week from 8 am to 6 pm, with After School Hours Care available to families 5 days per week. We are currently seek a passionate educator to fill the role of Assistant Director.
To be eligible to apply for this position you must hold a QUALIFICATION of a Diploma in Children’s Services or Early Childhood Education qualification equivalent.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT INCLUDE:
- Current Senior First Aid qualification
- Successful completion of relevant responding to abuse and neglect training
- A current Working With Children's Check
- Ability to attend at out of hours meetings, training and Centre functions (Award / Agreement remuneration / conditions apply)
- The director is on site during South Australian school terms. Therefore, the Assistant Director is required to perform higher duties during the school holiday period. It is preferable that the Assistant Director does not take leave during this time.
- The employee is required to work a minimum of 38 hours per week across 5 days to ensure continuity for children, staff and families.
As a key member of the team, the role involves providing high-quality care to meet the diverse needs of young children in a respectful, supportive, and inclusive environment. Responsibilities include, working with and supporting educators to develop and implement a dynamic and engaging children’s program that addresses each individuals ongoing development. The position requires upholding and contributing to the Centre's philosophy, policies, and procedures, in collaboration with the Director, to ensure all relevant standards and requirements are met.
This role requires strong pedagogical leadership and expertise in program and curriculum planning, with knowledge of the Early Years Learning Framework and My Time Our Place. Key responsibilities include effective observation, reporting, and communication skills, as well as the ability to supervise and support staff. The position involves working with children and families in a sensitive and professional manner, implementing behavior management strategies, and ensuring child safety and health. Knowledge of legal compliance, including Child Safe Environments, Occupational Health & Safety, and National Quality Standards, is essential, along with effective time management and computer skills.
Additionally, the role involves fostering a strong relationship with families and encouraging their involvement in the ongoing success of the service. Supervisory and leadership duties extend to all employees within the Centre ensuring a positive and effective team environment. In the Director's absence, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with quality assurance protocols, ensure the safety and well-being of both children and staff.
