What You'll Be Doing:

The Perinatal Mental Health Outreach Clinician is part of the RHW Perinatal & Women’s Mental Health Service and provides clinical assessment and care for women located within the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney who experience mental health issues during the perinatal period and who have or are birthing at RHW. Care is provided within the hospital, outpatient clinic and through home-visiting for up to one year postpartum. The Outreach Clinician works in close collaboration with the Mental Health Clinical Midwife Consultant (CMC).South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is committed to improving the care provided to our patients in line with our vision of Working together to improve the health and wellbeing of our community.
The position involves conducting mental health and risk assessment, determining patient needs for psychotherapeutic intervention, referral to the psychiatrist and provision of short-term appropriate structured therapies for women in later pregnancy and up to the first year postpartum living in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. The clinician will predominantly be seeing women in their homes and / or the outpatient clinic at Royal Hospital for Women (RHW). Job sharing and part-time work will be considered but it is preferable that the applicant is able to work on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Selection Criteria:
- A mental health clinician with either a degree in Psychology, Social Work, Nursing/Midwifery with further Psychiatric Training.
- Unconditional AHPRA registration as appropriate to their profession
- Demonstrated extensive experience working within a mental health service in hospital and community settings, with highly developed skills in mental health assessments, risk assessment and management
- Demonstrated counselling skills and ability to exercise judgement concerning the selection and application of principles, methods and techniques of individual and mother-infant psychological therapies.
- Experience and skills in interagency collaboration within and external to the hospital
- Ability to work autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience working with families experiencing severe and complex social and psychiatric problems in the perinatal period and knowledge and understanding of child protection issues and procedure for intervention.
- Current unrestricted drivers’ licence.
