About the Role

The Horticultural Labourer role contributes to the conservation, construction, maintenance and regeneration of horticultural and natural areas within the Botanic Gardens Sydney sites.

Role:

• Support the development, conservation, construction and maintenance of horticultural displays in accordance with BGGS policies and procedures
• Use and maintain horticultural machinery and equipment for the management of horticultural displays to the level of training and qualification held by the individual in accordance with industry standards.
• Carry work out in a manner to ensure the health and safety of staff, visitors and other stakeholders.

Essential skills:

• Relevant experience in maintenance of Horticultural displays or conservation of natural areas in parks and gardens.
• Sound knowledge and demonstrated capacity to implement occupational health and safety policy and practices .
• Experience in the use and maintenance of relevant horticultural machinery and equipment
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Willingness to work outside throughout the year for extended periods of time

Essential criteria:

• Class C driver licence
• Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 15 kilograms
• AQF3 Chemical application (desirable)
• Experience with Whipper snippers
• Experience with Ride-on mowers
