About the role

The Workplace Relations Legal Division is led by the Chief Counsel. The division works closely with policy divisions in the WR Group to provide legal advice about workplace relations matters to Government. The division also provides legal advice to government on workplace relations legislative reform options, liaising with Office of Parliamentary Counsel (OPC) about the drafting of legislation and providing support to the Minister during the Parliamentary phases of the legislation process. The division also provides advice to the Minister on possible ministerial intervention in legal matters and managing those interventions to ensure the Minister puts forward clear, well-argued submissions to the relevant court or tribunal.

About you

Desired skills include experience in managing teams and providing leadership in the workplace, strong legal analytical and problem-solving skills, experience in leading legislation development, ability to clearly explain complex concepts, ideas and arguments to a range of audiences, excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, including good judgement and resilience, someone who excels at building and maintaining stakeholder relationships, ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with others, ability to work in an agile, fast-paced environment, experience in providing legal advice on aspects of workplace relations law, work health and safety and/or workers’ compensation.
