Purpose of the position
This position is designed to support the Neighbourhood Houses Tasmania (NHT) team with the delivery of key events in our annual calendar, including our conference (August) and Neighbourhood House Week (May).
The role is part of a small, dynamic team, providing peak body functions to a Network of 32 Tasmanian Neighbourhood Houses. The team works collaboratively for social justice using a community development approach towards our vision for thriving Tasmanian communities.
About Neighbourhood Houses Tasmania
NHT is the peak body for the network of 32 Neighbourhood Houses located across the state. We provide:
- Information sharing with sector and community
- Sector consultation and co-ordination
- Advocacy and representation to government and other decision makers
- Resource, training, development and capacity building towards good practices and functioning of organisations
- Policy development and advice to the sector and government
The position requires:
- Working in accordance with the values and purpose of NHT
- Adhering to the policies and procedures of NHT
- Contributing to team projects, processes, staff meetings and staff development opportunities as offered by NHT.
Duration and hours
Commencing as soon as possible – 30 June 2025 (with potential for ongoing work up until September 2025).
Contract – 0.5 FTE (19 hours per week) – days and times of work flexible.
Pay and conditions
The terms and conditions are those applying under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHCADS) Industry Award 2010.
The position is classified at Level 3, Pay Point 1 ($37.35 per hour).
Superannuation will be paid at the mandated rate to the fund of choice.
Supervision
The position will work under the general supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, and in close collaboration with the Communications and Engagement Officer and Executive Assistant.
Duties
- Assist in the planning and delivery of events, meetings, and training.
- Provide administrative support, including general office tasks and contact record management.
- Respond promptly and effectively to enquiries, including those from Neighbourhood House staff, volunteers, and boards on relevant issues.
- Participate in meeting compliance requirements under legislation and funding agreements.
- Represent NHT at relevant meetings and forums.
- All other duties relevant to the position, as required and in line with Level 3 of the SCHADS award.

Working environment
The position will be located at the NHT Office, 16b Elmsleigh Road, Derwent Park.
We offer flexible working arrangements, including flexible days and times of work and working from home.
Our conference will be located in southern Tasmania in 2025, during the week of the 25-29 August.
Occasional travel and some out-of-hours work may be required.
Selection Criteria

Essential
- Attention to detail, administration, and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing deadlines.
- Demonstrated high-level computer skills, particularly in the use of office software such as Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience in coordinating events, meetings, or workshops, including logistical arrangements.
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively liaise with internal staff and external stakeholders.
- A commitment to social justice and community development principles, and an awareness of the role of Neighbourhood Houses in Tasmania.
- The capacity to work effectively both autonomously and in a team.
- National Police Check and Working with Vulnerable People Card (or ability to obtain).
Desirable
- Possession of a valid, open driver’s licence.
- Experience in communications and/or engagement.
- Experience with Drupal, MailChimp and/or Humanitix (or similar platforms).
