Data Management Specialist
Energy Queensland Group
Posted 14 days ago
Your future is Energy Queensland:
Energy Queensland, and our operational brands: Energex, Ergon Energy Network, Ergon Retail and Yurika, are at the frontline of progress in the energy industry. As Australia’s largest government-owned electricity organisation, we serve people and communities across the state and beyond. Here, you’ll help us deliver reliable energy solutions for our two million customers.
We’re currently on a mission to uplift our data management practices, and we need a skilled Data Management Specialist to help us drive this transformation. If you’re passionate about data governance, business engagement, and improving how data is managed across an enterprise, this role is for you.
This is a permanent, full-time opportunity based at our Newstead Office in Brisbane.
Your opportunity:
As a Data Management Specialist, you work as part of a small, tight-knit team that plays a critical role in making sure EQL’s data is accurate, secure, and well-governed. This isn’t a technical role – you’re not writing code or developing data sets – but you’re the go-to person for best practices, governance frameworks, and guiding business units and teams on how to use and manage their data effectively.
Your day-to-day involves engaging with leaders and subject matter experts across the entire business, understanding their data challenges, and helping them implement data quality and governance improvements. You act as a detective – digging into data management issues, identifying root causes, and working with Digital teams to drive innovative solutions. Whether it’s running data governance forums, collaborating on major data uplift projects, or ensuring compliance with privacy regulations, your work has a real impact on how we manage data at EQL.
We’re looking for someone who can hit the ground running – a relationship builder who can communicate with stakeholders at all levels and help us move toward a more collaborative, structured, and mature data management environment.
Your remuneration starts from $158k per annum + 14.75% super for a 9-day fortnight, and from $179k per annum + 14.75% super for a 10-day fortnight.
What’s on offer?
At Energy Queensland, we believe in supporting every aspect of your career and personal life. Here’s what you can expect:
- Flexibility that works: Flexible working arrangements, including up to 50% work-from-home options for applicable roles.
- Leave for real life: Access to additional health and wellbeing, culture and diversity leave options.
- Grow as you go: Opportunities to develop professionally through training, leadership programs and full access to LinkedIn Learning.
What you’ll bring:
You’re an experienced data management professional with a strong background in data quality, governance, and cataloguing.
You don’t need a specific degree – we care more about your experience. Ideally, you’ve spent 5+ years working in data management and data quality within large, complex organisations, helping to implement data governance frameworks, ownership models, and standards. Familiarity with DMBoK (Data Management Body of Knowledge) is essential.
Experience with data cataloguing and quality tools helps you stand out from the rest. We use Alation at EQL, but if you’ve worked with Collibra, Informatica, or similar tools, that’s useful too. Expertise in DataBricks, SAP S/4 Hana, or SAP Analytics Cloud is a bonus but not a requirement.
Just as important as your technical expertise is your ability to influence and coach others. Each day, you’re guiding business units through data management processes, helping them understand governance, best practices, and compliance requirements. Your strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills are key in this. You’re a natural at translating complex data concepts into clear, actionable steps and building trust across our large and diverse business landscape.
Above all, you’re someone who thrives on collaboration, problem-solving, and driving change. Our team is a mix of seasoned staff and new members, all working towards uplifting data maturity across EQL.
What matters most? For us, it’s our values: We’re Safe – We Belong – We Grow – We Deliver. If you’re going to be a part of our team, these should matter to you, too.
