The Job!

As a Coordinator Child Wellbeing and Safety Partnership, you form part of a dedicated team of professionals supporting the wellbeing and social connection of children, families and the community through a variety of cultural initiatives. It also delivers whole-of-agency functions and services tailored to meet the needs of the region across the Northern Territory, particularly early intervention and prevention programs designed to provide targeted, culturally safe and intense support to prevent statutory interventions.

To be successful your strong understanding of the principles and functions of delivering statutory and non-statutory welfare services, developing and delivering effective interventions, and demonstrated capacity to interpret and apply complex legislation will contribute to your success in the role. In addition, you will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, family and community structures, with the ability to communicate and work in a culturally safe manner.

The position for the Arnhem region is based Nhulunbuy, providing opportunities to travel across the region. You will not only make a difference to the lives of Territorians, both young and young at heart, you will experience an array of what the NT has to offer.

The Lifestyle!

  • The East Arnhem region is known for its beautiful beaches, rich cultural history and relaxed lifestyle. The town of Nhulunbuy on the Gove Peninsula is the largest centre in the region, the main service and business hub for the area, and has a population of around 4,000 people.
  • There are more than 100 homelands throughout the region, with populations ranging from 10 to 200 people.

There are a few small towns in the region, such as Nhulunbuy and Yirrkala, but most live in remote communities.

Groote Eylandt is a remote island off the coast of the Northern Territory on the Gove Peninsula.

The island is home to seven indigenous communities made up of 14 clans.

The largest communities are Angurugu and Umbakumba, located on Groote Eylandt; the Milyakburra, located on Bickerton Island; and there are four satellite communities, 4 Mile, Malkala, Little Paradise, and Bartalumba Bay, located close to mainstream services.

The region offers incredible outdoor experiences from exploring the natural surrounds from the bush to the beach, island adventures, tropical sunsets, cool dry season breezes, and the wet seasons’ spectacular lightning storms.
