About the role

TLS Consulting Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced IT Security Specialist to join our team on a contract basis in Canberra, ACT. As an IT Security Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the security and integrity of our client's information systems. This is a unique opportunity to apply your expertise in a dynamic and challenging environment where you can make a tangible impact on the organisation's security posture.

This is a contracting role until 30th June, 2025 - at this stage.

What you'll be doing

• Develop, review, and maintain security documentation, including policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines - based on existing Client templates.
• Ensure documentation aligns with industry regulations and compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST, Essential Eight, ISM and other relevant standards.
• Work with stakeholders to gather security requirements and translate them into clear, actionable documentation.
• Conduct security assessments and document findings, recommendations, and mitigation strategies.
• Provide guidance and best practices on security documentation and compliance requirements.
• Stay up to date with emerging security threats, regulations, and industry trends to ensure documentation remains relevant and effective.
• Assist in submission of the documentation to the Client's internal Accreditation authority.

What we're looking for

• Proven experience in security consulting, information security, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of security standards and frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST, Essential Eight, ISM, etc.).
• Excellent writing and documentation skills with the ability to present complex security concepts clearly and concisely.
• Experience conducting security risk assessments and compliance reviews.
• Familiarity with security tools, technologies, and best practices.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Relevant security certifications (e.g. IRAP, CISSP, CISM, ISO 27001 Lead Implementer) are highly desirable.
• Defence experience is highly desirable.
