Our valued State Government client is currently seeking an AO7 Principal Policy Officer to join their team in Northgate.
The Principal Policy Officer will lead policy and resolution initiatives within the Governance, Risk and Planning team. This role is responsible for the development, implementation, and governance of policies, procedures, and customer complaints framework. The successful candidate will provide high-level policy expertise, ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements while leading a team of policy professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Policy and Resolutions team, supervising two AO5 staff.
- Develop, review, and implement policy frameworks, procedures, and work instructions that align with legislation and government requirements.
- Provide high-level policy advice and support business areas in responding to internal audit recommendations and governance requirements.
- Oversee the customer complaints framework, ensuring policies and procedures are effectively managed.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, providing expert advice on policy matters.
- Develop and maintain controlled document management processes0
- Prepare detailed documentation, including policies, procedures, reports, briefing notes, and submissions.
- Maintain governance over policy-related matters to ensure consistency with legislation, regulations, and compliance standards.
- Support change management initiatives to facilitate the effective implementation of policy changes across the organisation.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Experience with policy development and review in a government setting.
- Experience in planning, coordinating, and leading the development and review of major policy frameworks, policies, procedures, and work instructions, ensuring timely completion of deliverables.
- Proven leadership experience in a policy team – team leader experience will be highly regarded.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex policy and legal advice into practical guidance.
- Experience managing customer complaints frameworks, internal audit responses, and business improvement initiatives.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, work under pressure, and meet deadlines in a structured and fast-paced environment.
- Strong written, verbal, and analytical communication skills.
In return, the role offers an hourly rate of $85.31 - $91.38 + Super per hour, an immediate start and an initial contract to 30 June 2025 with potential for extension.
