Position overview

PIA is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Marketing & Events Officer to help promote and assist with delivery of our events and programs in VIC and TAS. You will be someone passionate about using your broad toolkit of marketing and content skills, and you will have a key role in shaping our messaging and creating compelling and engaging content.

What you’ll be doing

Marketing

  • Creating, coordinating and shaping content for PIA’s direct marketing communications to members – a monthly e-newsletter, bi-monthly Planning News publication, and regular members’ communications.
  • Collaborating with the Events & Marketing Manager to design and deliver a marketing plan to promote events.
  • Contributing to the creation of marketing collateral, such as brochures and presentations.
  • Collaborating with national colleagues to achieve consistent messaging and brand representation using the PIA style guide.

Content creation

  • Creating, editing and proofreading content to maintain high standards and consistent messaging.
  • Developing creative visual elements, such as images and videos, to enhance content effectiveness.
  • Assisting with the coordination of compiling and publishing the bi-monthly PIA Magazine and creating promotional material.

Events / PIA Programs

  • Assisting the Events & Marketing Manager in setting up and delivering events.
  • Running online and in person events as part of PIA’s PLANET Program including working with presenters and venues to coordinate events end-to-end. PIA Victoria runs 80 professional developments courses throughout the period of March – November. This role will be responsible for all tasks related to the PLANET program including communications and administration.
  • Reporting on attendance, managing event registrations, and providing general customer service.

Social media coordination

  • Coordinating social media accounts and developing content calendars.
  • Working with VIC and TAS networks to maximise our social media impact.
  • Creating engaging social media posts to promote PIA VIC and TAS events, initiatives, and advocacy priorities (platforms: LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok)

Website / General Administrative Tasks:

  • Updating and maintaining the PIA VIC and TAS webpages with accurate and engaging content.
  • Optimizing website content for user experience.
  • Managing shared email inbox and phone answering.

Who we’re looking for:

A motivated and creative individual ready to join a small and passionate team to play a part in promoting the planning profession through PIA VIC and TAS programs and events.

Ideally, you’ll have most of the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in content creation, preferably in an entry marketing or communications role.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt content for different platforms and audiences.
  • Proficiency in social media management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work autonomously and to show initiative.
  • Time management skills and strong attention to detail when managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with various editing programs such as Canva, video editors for social media.
  • Experience with Marketing software (PIA uses Higher Logic)
  • Proficient in Word, Mail merge, Excel.
