Our participants, Our people, Our purpose

Currently, there are around 4.3 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 690,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.

New roles await

The Office of Agency Accessibility and Inclusion (OAAI) within the NDIA promotes accessibility and inclusion for all staff. OAAI fosters an inclusive workplace and ensures services and resources are accessible to everyone, including those with disabilities.

The Technology and Systems team is broad and covers engagement and research, ensuring systems and processes are easy to access and use, evaluating and assessing digital accessibility, and providing Australian Public Service leading assistive technology support.

We are seeking leaders in customer service who can drive technology initiatives aimed at enhancing the accessibility of technology used in the workplace.

Where you can add value

As an APS6 Assistive Technology Team Lead in the Assistive Technology team, you will be part of a team of specialists and administrators who provide, maintain, and troubleshoot the assistive technologies that enable people to perform at their best in their roles. You will work collaboratively with relevant business areas and key stakeholders across the Agency to implement ICT-related workplace adjustments for current and prospective employees, including partner organisations

Responsibilities of the role may include:

  • Providing Level 2 ICT Service Desk support and basic orientation in using NDIA systems with approved assistive technology (AT) software and hardware.
  • Testing and evaluating AT compatibility with new products and functions, and providing advice and feedback to relevant business areas to ensure accessibility.
  • Providing active technical support with a range of accessible technology, including Microsoft Accessibility features, iOS Accessibility features, and software such as JAWS and Dragon Professional.
  • Day-to-day people leadership, including the management, coaching, and support to team members to enable them to be effective in their roles; which may include creating supporting documentation such as task cards, training materials, and presentations
  • Managing complex enquiries, complaints, and urgent escalations for accessible technology issues.
  • Maintaining records and producing reports, including Service Desk notes, assistive technology licensing and equipment allocations, and utilisation to support accurate reporting.
Enough about us, let’s talk about you

Our ideal candidate will have a person-centred approach to providing tailored technical support to people with disability and/or accessibility needs to meet their individual goals.

They will have excellent communication across a range of mediums and the ability to share technical information in an easily understandable way.

They will have exceptional attention to detail and take initiative to find solutions and support their team.

Understanding of disability frameworks and legislation (Disability Discrimination Act 1992, Work Health and Safet Act 2011, and Accessibility requirements suitable for public procurement of ICT products and services (AS EN 301 549) ) and qualifications in and/or knowledge of contemporary ICT service delivery, governance frameworks, and methodologies is highly desirable.

Your NDIA Experience

We empower and enable each other to be our best. We collaborate, connect and work together to create a workplace that makes us proud. And while we're based far and wide across the country, we make sure nobody feels they are out on their own.

  • You will work for a socially inclusive and culturally diverse workplace, that is making a meaningful impact to the lives of more than 600,000 Australians.
