About the Role

We're seeking individuals at all experience levels to join our team at The Shorty. The ideal candidates will have a genuine passion for cooking and enthusiasm for the craft. You'll collaborate closely with the team to contribute ideas and bring creativity to the table. As a busy and popular pub in Shortland, this is a fast-paced role that requires energy and drive.

Responsibilities:

• Assist team in daily kitchen operations, ensuring high standards of food quality and presentation.
• Oversee food preparation and manage kitchen staff in the Head Chef’s absence for Sous Chef applicants.
• Contribute to menu development, focusing on fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
• Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
• Support the team during functions, events, and restaurant service.

Requirements:

• Previous chef/cook experience within a similar fast-paced environment
• The ability to run a section for a smooth, organised service
• Team leadership skills for Sous Chef applicants
• Passionate about the end product
• Professional, polished appearance (for our open kitchens)
• A positive attitudeLead the development and execution of exciting menu ideas and concepts
