This role is open to applicants who identify as Aboriginal only. About the Role
As a Caseworker - Not in Placement, you will provide intensive case management for children who are Away From Placement (AFP) or Not in Placement (NIP). Your focus will be on securing permanency and stability, ensuring children enter an authorised placement or a therapeutic care model. You will play a critical role in supporting child safety, preventing systems abuse, and advocating for the best outcomes in line with legislative and service guidelines.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of vulnerable children who are not in an authorised placement.
- Work with allocated caseworkers to prevent unauthorised placements and secure stable environments.
- Build and maintain strong referral networks with service providers.
- Oversee risk management and ensure child safety concerns are reported appropriately.
- Manage ChildStory reporting and ensure accurate records are maintained.
- Collaborate with KARI’s support teams, DCJ, and external stakeholders to identify placement options.
- Attend District Panel meetings and provide high-level reports to DCJ.
- Facilitate contact between children, birth families, and significant others where appropriate.
- Advocate for Aboriginal children, young people, and families in the sector.
Requirements

- National Criminal History Check
- NSW Driver’s Licence (minimum P2)
Skills & Experience
- Relevant qualification in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field. Minimum qualification for this position is at Diploma level.
- Proven experience in intensive case management, particularly with vulnerable children.
- Strong understanding of child protection frameworks, permanency planning, and risk assessment.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with government agencies, service providers, and key stakeholders.
- Excellent report writing and documentation skills, with experience using ChildStory or similar systems.
- Familiarity with contract compliance and regulatory guidelines in child protection.
- Strong commitment to working with Aboriginal children, families, and communities.
