The role

The Clinical Coding Manager, HIM & Coding Support Unit, in the Healthcare Purchasing and Funding Branch, the Department reports to the Professional Lead Clinical Coding. The number of direct reports this position is responsible for is 5 permanent coders and a casual pool of coders and auditors. The Clinical Coding Manager will provide leadership over the a team of clinical coders and auditors managing coding contracts with multiple Hospital and Health Services across Queensland.

Key Reponsibilities:

  • Oversee and lead a team of clinical coders and auditors who work across multiple Hospital and Health Services, ensuring their commitment to training, development, and overall performance.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in the development, implementation and evaluation of the Accelerated Graduate Program within the State HIM and Clinical Coding Team.
  • Build, represent and maintain effective networks by consulting with internal and external clients, interest groups, other government agencies and stakeholders on national, state and local forums, committees and working groups and establish collaborative partnerships.
  • Support rural and remote Hospital and Health Services either on-site or remotely through the in-sourced Clinical Coding Services
  • Develop and maintain a Clinical Coding Operational plan that identifies opportunities for continuous improvement and aims for best practice.

The successful person

You will have demonstrated:

  • Effective leadership, and ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and compliance of clinical coding within the State HIM and Clinical Coding support team to enable the achievement of best practice Clinical Coding Service.
  • Prior development and maintenance of a Clinical Coding Operational plan that identifies opportunities for continuous improvement and aims for best practice.
  • Ability to develop and undertake coding quality improvement activities and audits to identify and make recommendations on opportunities for improvement and to monitor and maintain coding quality for the State HIM & Clinical Coding Team.
