We are seeking an Electrician to join our Customer Delivery division to maintain, repair and service Hunter Waters' electrical assets.

The Opportunity

The Electrician role is based at Hunter Water's Tomago Depot and includes an obligation to be able and willing to perform reasonable overtime and participate in an after-hours on call roster in order for Hunter Water to ensure the delivery of essential water and wastewater services to customers and the community. In order for this role to meet on call roster commitments and call out timeframes when responding to operational issues it is a requirement for prospective employees to live within Hunter Water's area of operations.

As a Hunter Water Electrician you will be primarily responsible for the maintenance, repair and operational functions of all electrical assets within Hunter Water's area of operations.

What you'll do:

  • Complete Electrical work as required including but not limited to planned and corrective maintenance, fault finding, diagnosis, and rectification of electrical equipment, installation work and condition assessments
  • Able and willing to work across all areas of Hunter Waters operations and assets including but not limited to working in confined spaces, at heights and working with sewer
  • Working on apparatus including but not limited to electric motors (i.e. submersible pump and motors), motor starters (i.e. variable speed, solid state (soft starter), DOL, and auto-transformer starters), electrical general and distribution equipment, high voltage equipment and pump, motor and process control equipment (i.e. PLC equipment, instrumentation and radio telemetry equipment)
  • Undertake work on High Voltage including developing switching instructions, isolations, switching and verifications and issuing of access permits
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with all safe work procedures both individually and ensure compliance on site for other staff and/or contractors where required
  • Assist the Field Supervisor in training and development of Hunter Water apprentices and staff in electrical awareness

What you'll need to be successful:

Essential Criteria (to be held on application):

  • Qualified Supervisors Certificate - Electrician
  • Class C Drivers licence
  • Construction Induction Card, Low Voltage Release & Rescue and current CPR
  • Minimum of 4 years demonstrated experience in the maintenance, fault diagnosis, repair and installation of relevant electrical equipment
  • Working knowledge of PLC functions and programs and demonstrated ability to fault find using PLC logic
  • Knowledge of SAA wiring rules
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematic and construction diagrams and drawings
  • Proven commitment to demonstrating a high level of personal work ethic, safety, productivity and continuous improvement

Desirable Criteria:

  • If the following qualifications and training are not held on application it is a requirement of this role that new employees be willing and able to complete all training requirements within 6 months of commencing at Hunter Water: Confined Space Entry & Rescue, Emergency First Aid, Chlorine Handling and Chemical Awareness, Working at Heights, High Voltage training, Elevated Work Platform Licence and Forklift ticket.
  • Experience working in the water industry or other comparable industries
  • Telemetry equipment experience
  • Experience in high voltage maintenance, switching and issuing access permits
  • Experience in motor/pump overhauls and repairs
