Role Overview

The Team Leader for the Family Support Programs is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Intensive Family Support (IFS) and Nambour Family Support (NFS) teams. Reporting directly to the Program Coordinator, the Team Leader ensures that services are delivered effectively, with a focus on achieving positive outcomes for families. This position involves leading a team of dedicated practitioners, ensuring high-quality service delivery, and achieving positive outcomes for families facing complex challenges. The role includes supervising and mentoring the team of case managers and support workers, overseeing the implementation of tailored interventions and support plans, guiding staff, managing stakeholder relationships, and driving continuous improvement of the program. The Team Leader works collaboratively within the broader service system, ensuring that families receive holistic, coordinated support that promotes safety, well-being, and long-term change.

This role will work across the Sunshine Coast area and will be based in our Tewantin office (with outreach to Nambour)

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and guide a team of Intensive Family Support Workers, ensuring effective case management and service delivery.
  • Develop and implement individualized, family-centered support plans that address the unique needs of each family, considering cultural, emotional, and practical factors.
  • Monitor the progress of families in the program and adjust strategies and interventions to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Ensure timely, effective, and trauma-informed service delivery to promote family safety, well-being, and resilience.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision, including conducting regular one-on-one meetings with staff.
  • Mentor staff in managing complex casework, including situations involving child protection, mental health, domestic violence, and substance misuse.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external service providers to ensure families have access to a comprehensive range of resources.
  • Participate in case discussions, team consultations, and interagency meetings to ensure holistic support for families.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of interventions, ensuring accurate and up-to-date case documentation that meets program and organizational standards.
  • Report regularly on case progress, team performance, and program outcomes to the Program Coordinator.
  • Contribute to program evaluations, audits, and ensure compliance with organizational policies, legal requirements, and child protection standards.

What we are looking for:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Science or a related discipline
  • At least 5 years of experience in a social services or child protection environment, including leadership experience.
  • Proven experience in managing or supervising a team providing direct support to families in crisis and with complex needs.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of working with families facing complex issues, including domestic violence, mental health challenges, substance abuse, and child protection concerns.
  • Experience in case management and coordinating multi-agency support for families.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant theory and legislation, including the Child Protection Act, Family Violence Protection Act, and other applicable state and federal laws, supported by a practice approach that aligns with the Strengthening Families, Protecting Children framework. This includes broad-based safety and risk assessment skills, as well as the application of the Safe & Together model of practice and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention.
  • Strong leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, and motivate a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to build rapport with families, team members, and external stakeholders.
  • Highly organised with strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Sound problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed, critical decisions in complex situations.
  • Commitment to a strengths-based, family-centred, and trauma-informed approach to practice.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work respectfully with diverse families and communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable families and ensuring that children are safe, well-supported, and empowered.

Other Requirements

  • Successful applicants will also need to hold a ‘C’ class Open driver licence, State Working with Children Check and hold, or be eligible to apply for, a Licensed Care Suitability Check issued by the QLD Department of Child Safety, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs.
