The opportunity

As a Technical Specialist, Security Architect you will be part of the Information Security team with responsibility for the secure operation of ASIO’s ICT systems. The team provides advice and guidance to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of systems, applications and data. The team coordinates security uplift programs and manages security solutions across ICT systems to ensure our technical foundations are stable, secure, and Essential Eight compliant.

As part of the Information Security team, you will be responsible for ensuring security is embedded in new projects and capabilities, uplift activities, and ongoing system sustainment. It is a critical role in delivering on a range of strategic initiatives to support business and mission functions.

A merit pool may be created to fill future vacancies which have the same or similar requirements to this position. This merit pool will be valid for up to 18 months.

Role responsibilities

As a Technical Specialist, Security Architect, you will:

  • Evaluate ICT project submissions, ensuring security is embedded in all projects and alignment with the organisation’s security strategy, policy, architectural standards and roadmaps.
  • Develop and implement modernisation strategies for security solutions, focusing on resiliency, scalability and sustainability. Ensure these solutions meet business needs and stay up-to-date with emerging threats and technologies.
  • Drive system authorisation and security uplift activities, ensuring efficient risk management processes that align with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with project delivery teams and system managers to implement effective security controls, providing guidance and support to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Share expertise and provide mentoring and guidance to other security practitioners, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development within the team.

To be eligible for the role, you must be:

  • An Australian citizen.
  • Assessed as suitable to hold and maintain a TOP SECRET-Privileged Access security clearance.

Location

This position may be located in Canberra, Sydney or Melbourne. Applicants would be required to relocate to one of these locations if successful. Relocation assistance is provided to successful applicants where required.

Employment conditions

Employment is under the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Act 1979. Conditions of service are similar to those applying in the Australian Public Service. We recognise entitlements accrued under the Public Service Act 1999 and provide for continuation of superannuation under the Commonwealth schemes. Salary packaging arrangements are also available.
