We are seeking an experienced Ear Health Nurse Coordinator to support the Primary Health Care (PHC) sector in improving ear health outcomes for children and families in the Miwatj Health region. This role involves promoting a continuous quality improvement (CQI) approach, facilitating health promotion, and developing skills to enhance ear health services. The coordinator will play a key role in improving integration between PHC and specialist services, coordinating referrals for surgical and specialist ear health services, and ensuring increased engagement with appointments. Working closely with community workers, local communities, and the Child Health Program Lead, the coordinator will plan and implement culturally appropriate health promotion initiatives.
This role is based in either Darwin or Nhulunbuy, with no housing provided.
This position requires regular travel by 4WD or light aircraft for up to five days at a time within the Miwatj Region.
Successful applicants will have access to a range of benefits, including:
- Competitive salary of $119,634 to $128,524 per annum + 11.5% superannuation
- Ability to Salary Package up to $15,900pa plus a further $2,650pa on Meals and Entertainment

Miwatj Health is an independent Aboriginal Community-Controlled Health Service. Established in 1992, we’re committed to securing quality health care services across the East Arnhem and enabling Yolŋu powered community health and wellbeing. Miwatj provides culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care to over 6,000 remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents across 3 East Arnhem wards. With a Head Office in Nhulunbuy, Miwatj also manages a Corporate Office in Darwin, 7 fixed clinics across the East Arnhem region, and dedicated outreach teams who travel to 3 additional locations.
Essential Requirements
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse (AHPRA-registered, without conditions) with a minimum of three years postgraduate experience and a strong understanding of ear health and its impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to Aboriginal Community Control and self-determination, possess cultural awareness of the challenges faced by Yolngu people in remote communities, and have proven ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams and with external stakeholders to deliver impactful health outcomes.

About Miwatj Health
Miwatj Health has its administrative base in the town of Nhulunbuy, in the Northern Territory of Australia. Our clinics are located in Nhulunbuy, Gunyangara (also known as Marngarr), Galiwin’ku and Yirrkala, providing a walk-in service for all acute and preventive care needs. In addition to these fixed clinics, our outreach teams provide a regular visiting service to a number of nearby communities including Birritjimi, Galupa, Gunyangara, Garrathiya Plains, Yirrkala, and within the Galiwin’ku community.

Miwatj Health’s mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of residents of the communities of East Arnhem Land through the delivery of appropriate and comprehensive primary health care and to promote the control by Aboriginal communities of primary health care resources.
The Core Functions of Miwatj Health are:
◾The provision of clinical services to Aboriginal communities in the East Arnhem Land region, including both acute care and longer-term preventive care
◾Implementation of a range of population/public health programs and strategies which address the underlying causes of illness
◾Advocacy in support of the right of Aboriginal people to control their own health services and for such health services to receive resources and funding adequate to address the health problems of the region
◾Ensuring efficient, accountable administrative and financial systems support for the delivery of our services. The underlying philosophy of Miwatj Health is the fundamental right of Aboriginal people to control their own health services.
