About the role

As a Legal Counsel - Investments, you’ll be a trusted adviser and business partner in relation to investment matters, providing specialist, solutions-focused legal advice and services. You will work in the Legal team with a primary focus on advising on commercial and general investment contracts. You will be responsible for assisting Australian Retirement Trust in meeting its legal, regulatory and compliance obligations.

Day to day, you'll:

• Provide timely, accurate and commercially appropriate legal advice on investment related activities.
• Provide advice and expertise on investment related documentation and investment structures arising from Australian Retirement Trust’s investments within Australia and offshore.
• Maintain document records for investment activities in the relevant document management systems.
• Collaborate and develop strong relationships with key business stakeholders to ensure advice is provided having regard to the strategic goals of Australian Retirement Trust.

This role is available as a 6-month max-term/ secondment opportunity.

About you

It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:

• Tertiary qualification in Law and current unrestricted practising certificate as a Legal Practitioner in Australia.
• Post admission experience in private practice and/or in-house (asset manager or superannuation fund).
• Robust negotiation, drafting, influencing and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of an organisation.
• Proven ability to provide professional, concise advice and solutions to technical, legislative and strategic issues.
• Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strategic working relationships, influence, negotiate with and persuade senior stakeholders.
• Ability to advise and support key projects and transactions and juggle various projects at the same time.
• Ability to undertake interstate travel.
