About the Courts
The Local Court of the Northern Territory is established by the Local Court Act 2015. The Local Court is the first level of the Northern Territory’s two tier court system and in the great majority of cases is the first point of contact that members of the public have with the judicial system. The Court handles the greatest proportion of cases in the Northern territory, dealing with both criminal and civil cases.

This role
The Justice Services Officer deals with a broad range of clients including people from diverse cultures, generally unfamiliar with the legal system. This position also assists with not only, the Local Court but also directly with the functions of Births, Deaths & Marriages (BDM), Fines Recovery Unit (FRU) and the Northern Territory Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NTCAT). The Justice Services Officer also works with judicial officers who have varying practices and expectations and the position also does a variety of administrative work to facilitate the operation of courts in criminal, civil and other matters.
