About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for a Principal Environmental Health Officer to join the team in Emerald on a casual full-time basis. This is a leadership role responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental health regulations, developing strategies to maintain public health standards, and guiding a team to achieve regulatory and community outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
Regulatory Compliance & Enforcement: Interpreting and applying environmental legislation to ensure compliance with public health, food safety, and waste management regulations.
Leadership & Team Coordination: Supporting, mentoring, and developing a team of environmental health professionals within a local government setting.
Investigations & Inspections: Conducting assessments, audits, and investigations related to environmental health risks and implementing corrective actions.
Community Engagement & Stakeholder Management: Collaborating with local businesses, residents, and stakeholders to promote public health initiatives and compliance.
Reporting & Policy Development: Preparing high-quality reports, delivering presentations, and contributing to policy development to enhance public health outcomes.
This position offers an immediate start, running through May 2025, with a 9-day fortnight schedule (72.5 hours per fortnight, Monday - Friday, 7 AM - 5 PM).

To be successful
You must meet the following mandatory requirements:
Minimum C Class Provisional Licence
Tertiary qualification in Applied Science (Environmental Health) or an Environmental Health Australia (EHA) accredited course from a recognised institution.
Extensive experience in environmental health and regulatory compliance, particularly in a local government or similar setting.
Proven leadership and team coordination skills, with the ability to guide and support a team within a political environment.
Strong reporting and presentation skills, capable of delivering high-quality written and verbal communications.
