We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Heavy Diesel Fitter on beautiful Christmas Island. Our client is offering a relocation package for you and the family. This is a residential position so you will be home to family every day. The resource is Phosphorous and will suit a Mechanic who has extensive experience working with Fixed and Mobile plant.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • MEM30205 Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade (Heavy Duty Diesel Fitting) or AUR30616 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology.
  • WA Motor Vehicle Repairer's Certificate endorsed for Diesel Fitting Work, Heavy Vehicle and Light Vehicle.
  • WA 'C' Class Drivers' License or equivalent.

DESIRABLE

  • Rigging and dogging certificates.
  • Gantry crane operation certificate.
  • Auto Electrical, Refrigeration Mechanics or Boiler-making/Welding qualifications.
  • Senior First Aid certificate.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

  • Ability to read and comprehend manufacturer's manuals
  • Experience as a qualified trades person maintaining and repairing heavy mining, earthmoving and road transport equipment.
  • Demonstrated fault-finding and diagnostic experience.
  • Ability to interpret electrical and hydraulic drawings.
  • Welding experience is desirable.
  • Maintenance of equipment records using a maintenance management system such as PRONTO.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow safety and risk management procedures.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English language is desirable (and mandatory where Regulations stipulate).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carries out scheduled and corrective maintenance to mobile plant and machinery. (Includes mining fleet, earthmoving plant, road trains, vacuum trucks, service truck and light vehicle
  • Complete maintenance tasks as directed by Leading Hand and Mobile Plant Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Coach and support Apprentices.
  • Diagnose faults, inspect and test machinery and plant and determine repair action required. Carry out repair action required to manufacturer's specifications, WA Mines Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations and relevant Australian standards.
  • Work as directed by supervisor to ensure efficient use of time and equipment.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and execution of safety in relation to a mine site
  • Disassembly, steam-cleaning, strip component, fault-finding and diagnosis, including review of machine history
  • and discussion with Leading Hand.
  • Carry out repair, testing and re-assembly.
  • Communicate with Leading Hand regarding ordering of parts.
  • Scheduled maintenance
  • Operate Grease truck in field including inspections, lubrication and preventative actions
  • Scheduled services in workshop
  • Maintain records as per maintenance schedule
  • Participate in major rebuild projects
  • May be required to complete refrigeration, auto electrical or boiler maker tasks if competent in these areas
  • Complete training needs as required as per CIP Training Matrix

PHYSICAL CAPACITY REQUIREMENTS - ASSESSED IN FUNCTIONAL TASK JOB ANALYSIS ASSESSMENT

  • Climb up and over parts of vehicles using step ladders, fixed ladders and tracks.
  • Use tyre levers requiring force and manoeuvre tyres.
  • Position large jacks under heavy components requiring some pushing and twisting.
  • Use hand tools such as hammers and spanners requiring repetition and force.
  • Use electric hand tools requiring reach and sustained grasp often involving hand-arm vibration.
  • Crouch, bend, reach and work overhead in the pit.
  • carry out repairs in difficult terrain and conditions in field.
