Are you a boat mechanic with a keen interest for working offshore?

VIKING Australia is looking for an experienced Offshore Boat Mechanic to join our growing team based in Perth, Western Australia.

Reporting to the Technical Manager, this position is part of our Lifeboat and Davit Services team, providing equipment maintenance and servicing to our customers in the Offshore Oil & Gas sector.

About the position
As a Boat Mechanic, you will be responsible for ensuring the inspection, maintenance service, and repair of lifeboats and davits. This role is predominantly an offshore-based position and as such, a significant amount of travel is to be expected around Australia and extending to international waters at times.

In close cooperation with the team, your primary responsibilities are:

  • Perform inspection and maintenance service of lifeboats and davits, including but not limited to the structure, supports and electrical
  • Carry out yearly control, five yearly control and commissioning for lifeboats, davits and other related equipment
  • Troubleshoot issues, carry out breakdown maintenance
  • Perform general repairs including GRP
  • Provide general technical advice to customers
  • Manage assigned projects/tasks from start to completion
  • Produce high quality service reports
  • Cooperate, maintain close contact, and provide full support to the Service Planner and Operations Manager to meet Company and customer expectations
  • Any other duties assigned to you.

Your entry into the position
The ideal candidate has experience in a similar position and is committed to providing quality work to an exceptional standard.

Additionally, we prefer if you have:

  • Trade qualification in boat building, mechanical fitting, or diesel mechanic, or the equivalent of five (5) years in the marine safety industry
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience with cloud-based systems
  • Minimum basic computer skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to foster good professional relationships with both colleagues and customers.
