Role Purpose

The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Coordinator supports the HSE Manager in fostering a safe, healthy, and compliant working environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors across the company. This role involves facilitating and delivering HSE programs, strategies, and training onsite to ensure legislative compliance. Additionally, the position provides coaching and guidance to company leaders to identify hazards, mitigate risks, and promote a culture of safety, environmental awareness, and employee well-being.

Role Responsibilities
  • Provide accurate and timely specialist advice and onsite support to ensure the effective implementation and delivery of HSE frameworks, programs, and management systems across the company.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor HSE-related policies and procedures, recommending updates as required.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections and risk assessments to ensure compliance with HSE standards and requirements.
  • Engage in behavioral observations and mentor employees to reinforce HSE strategies and foster a positive safety culture.
  • Support the HSE Manager in workers’ compensation claims and return-to-work processes as needed.
  • Participate in investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Promote accurate and timely reporting of incidents and events.
  • Facilitate corporate inductions for new hires.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to set performance standards and mutual expectations, offering and receiving regular feedback to improve performance.
  • Communicate effectively and succinctly, fostering a client service-oriented approach.
  • Take initiative in personal and professional development by identifying growth opportunities and utilizing available resources to enhance skills and optimize potential within Rino Recycling.
  • Work cooperatively with customers, teams, and management, aligning with company values to maintain a harmonious and productive work environment.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, offering suggestions for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Stay informed about and adhere to relevant policies and legislation.
  • Perform additional duties, projects, or responsibilities as assigned.
Key Skills and Experience

Education and Qualifications

Required:

  • Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or a Diploma in Workplace Health and Safety
  • 2+ years’ experience in a similar role within manufacturing, mining, construction, waste management, or other heavy industries.

Desirable:

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
  • ICAM Investigation certification.
  • First Aid Certification.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of current workplace HSE legislative requirements, standards, and best practices.
  • Experience working with HSE management systems, including HSE reporting in operational or waste management environments.
  • Knowledge of environmental management and sustainability practices.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations, audits, and inspections in an objective manner and recommending effective solutions.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively to influence and enhance safety culture and performance.
  • Ability to design and deliver engaging training programs.
Additional Information
  • Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must possess a current White Card (or be willing to obtain one).
  • Due to the physical nature of the role, a pre-employment medical assessment is required.
  • A criminal/background check will be conducted due to access to sensitive information.
  • Employees may be assigned tasks within their skill, competence, and training levels in any area of Rino Recycling, in alignment with their classification level.
