The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding career opportunity where you can showcase your crisis, incident and emergency management planning and response expertise? The Crisis Coordination and Continuity Branch is seeking EL2 Director Crisis Coordination professionals to join the NDIA.
We are seeking resilient leaders who can work with a high level of autonomy and who have demonstrated experience in business continuity management, business impact analysis and emergency management activities and implementation, across a varying geographical landscape.
The Branch is integral to the Agency's resilience and operational integrity and is dedicated to ensuring the Agency can effectively respond to and recover from, disruptions or significant unplanned changes that may pose potential threats to the Agency’s operations, personnel, assets, brand, and reputation.
Where you can add value
As EL2 Director Crisis Coordination, you will be responsible for the design, development and implementation of contemporary “All-Hazards” crisis and incident/emergency management planning, in consultation with internal and external stakeholders. You will work collaboratively across Agency, identifying stakeholder needs when initiating the development of new systems, procedures and policies, ensuring alignment of Agency planning and responses.
Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
- Facilitation of education and awareness activities to internal stakeholders, including detailed scenario exercises to test the effectiveness of processes and planning documents.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to identify and maintain mutually beneficial and productive working relationships, raising awareness and considerations of people with disability in the crisis/emergency management space.
- Providing Emergency Management support to State and Territory Incident Controllers in planning, response and recovery activities.
- Prepare Executive and Ministerial briefs and other Senior Executive reporting.
- Represent and collaborate on behalf of the agency to mutually advance the agency’s interest across Whole of Government.

Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in leadership roles, with exceptional stakeholder engagement and management skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. You will have high level written and verbal communication skills and the courage to identify issues, lead solutions and communicate decisions and actions. Tertiary qualifications and/or relevant demonstrated experience in emergency management and crisis coordination roles, with experience in the application of “All-Hazards” is desirable.

While this role is ideally performed from Geelong - VIC, Richmond - VIC, Perth - WA, Brisbane - QLD, Surry Hills - NSW, Adelaide - SA, Deakin - ACT, Hobart - TAS, remote working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship. Successful candidates may be required to obtain a Baseline Clearance.
