About the role – Full Time Maximum Term Contract until 30/06/2025
As a committed Homeless Practitioner, you will work within a restorative practice framework and ensure cultural accountability. The Homeless Practitioner is the first contact for clients entering or seeking homeless support. The position contributes to embedding an innovative Aboriginal designed service model known as Wardli-ana where team members will work with our collaborators across the Toward Home Alliance in multidisciplinary teams.
Key responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
- With an understanding of collective culture, build safe, trusting and consistent relationships with Aboriginal clients and their community members
- Provide early intervention and assessment to navigate the homeless systems and applications
- Keep accurate cultural client records including connection and working with their wider community.
- Ensure that services safeguard client’s cultural identity and connections with their community in partnership and consultation with the client and community members.
About you:
You will be a compassionate and skilled professional, experienced in supporting vulnerable populations, particularly within Aboriginal communities. With strong communication and relationship-building skills, you’ll collaborate effectively with clients and stakeholders. Your cultural competence and commitment to continuous learning will ensure you provide respectful, tailored support, helping clients achieve long-term outcomes.
You will also have the following skills and experience:
- Certificate 4 in Community Services or related field.
- Track record of successfully engaging with clients and building relationships
- Previous experience in working with vulnerable and at-risk people.
- Experience working with Aboriginal people and communities in the provision of support services.
- Highly developed written and interpersonal communication skills and ability to persuasively apply them in a complex working environment.
Specific Requirements:

You will be required to have, or be willing to obtain:
- A current and valid DHS: Child-Related Employment Screening/WWCC
- A current and valid National Police Clearance
- Training – Child Safe Environments
- Training – Apply First Aid (min HLTAID012)
- Approved Psychological Suitability Assessment.
- Ability and willingness to travel within South Australia as required.
- A valid full South Australian drivers’ license (C Class)
