Department of Corrections (DOC) takes a whole-of-life approach to addressing the vulnerabilities in our society through providing support services to create positive change for children, families, communities and seniors.
As a Youth Justice Officer, your primary objective is to provide care, supervision and support to vulnerable young people in youth detention centres and ensure their needs are met within a secure, culturally safe and therapeutic setting, in accordance with the Model of Care and relevant legislation.
Located in either the Darwin or Alice Springs Detention Centres, you play an integral role supporting and encouraging the social development and improvement of the wellbeing of children and young people in detention. Your personal life experiences, strong role modelling, along with your genuine care and compassion will assist you provide the necessary supervision and support required to foster a positive workplace culture and participate in the delivery of education, programs and activities. Working across supervised teams you will partake in a 24 hour/7 days per week roster program, work with a high level of integrity and adhere to the Department’s values and the Code of Conduct.
We appreciate this is a challenging yet rewarding role, you will initially commence as a temporary employee on a 15-month full time contract and upon completion of your successful studies you will gain Certificate IV in Youth Justice. This will allow you to apply to have your employment status changed to ongoing.

To be successful, you require a current Northern Territory Working with Children Clearance (or ability to acquire), an unrestricted driver’s licence and criminal history check.
