About the role

The Hungry Pelican is seeking a creative, talented professional to fill the role of Cook in our Cafe. You will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of delicious breakfast and lunch café style meals for our customers. This is a great opportunity to showcase your culinary skills in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The position is casual up to 35-40 hours per week with the option of going full time.

We are a small family business; we have recently taken over a restaurant/café here in Hervey Bay. Our mission is to rebrand and offer a personal and high level of quality and service to our customers, creating an exceptional café experience.

What you'll be doing

• Preparing and cooking breakfast and lunch menu items to a high standard.
• Ensuring all dishes are presented beautifully and in a timely manner.
• Maintaining a clean and organised kitchen environment.
• Collaborating with the front-of-house team to deliver exceptional customer service.
• Adhering to all food safety and hygiene regulations.
• Contributing to the development of new menu items and recipes.

Key Cookery skills:

• Following prep and completing task efficiently
• cooking eggs to perfection (poached is essential)
• Burger preparation
• comfortable with making salads/brunch specials
• basic baking skills

What We’re Looking For:

• At least 3 years of experience as a chef or cook in a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of café-style breakfast and lunch dishes.
• Ability to work well in a small, tight-knit team.
• Willingness to take on additional duties outside your specified role when necessary.
• Clean, tidy, quick on your feet, and professional.
• A positive, personable attitude — after all, life's too short to be angry!
