About the Role

The National Parks and Wildlife Service is seeking a Project Officer, Snowy 2.0 Operations to join a close-knit, high-performing team based in Jindabyne and Tumut, responsible for administration of tenure and oversight of environmental and heritage management arrangements for the Snowy 2.0 Pumped-hydro and Transmission Project. In this role, you will assist the Senior Project Officer, Snowy 2.0 Operations to provide NPWS input on aspects of the Snowy 2.0 Project which impact park management and the natural and cultural values of Kosciuszko National Park.

As the Project Officer, Snowy 2.0 Operations, you will play a direct information gathering and stakeholder liaison role in supporting the administration of tenure and oversight of environmental and heritage management arrangements for the Snowy 2.0 Project. In this role, you will build strong working relationships with on-site construction personnel and compliance officers from the State and Commonwealth agencies involved in providing regulatory oversight to the Snowy 2.0 Project.

On a day-to-day basis, you will keep abreast of Project activities to identify emerging construction environmental and heritage management issues. You will liaise directly on-site to address these issues and coordinate Project activities with NPWS’ broader park management responsibilities. You will be an active participant in ensuring compliance with the regulatory and tenure arrangements which apply to the Project, including through advising on management plan implementation, participating in regular working groups and undertaking frequent site inspections.

As construction work for the Project is completed, you will progressively review on-site rehabilitation works and the implementation of longer-term operational agreements about Project-specific and shared infrastructure within Kosciuszko National Park.

Additionally, this role provides practical, on-the-ground advice on construction processes, environment, heritage and rehabilitation matters to the Senior Project Officer, Snowy 2.0 Operations, Snowy 2.0 Manager and Park Operations Projects Director.

About You

Your passion for cultural heritage and the environment, coupled with detailed knowledge of construction processes, environmental management and rehabilitation will be key to your success in this role. Ideally you will have detailed knowledge and experience in these areas drawn from within the construction industry or in related regulatory areas of government.

You understand complex project documentation such as management plans, tenure and regulatory approvals, and you are adept at providing advice on their practical, real-world implementation. Using your adaptable verbal and written communication skills, you enjoy liaising with a range of government, private sector and community stakeholders in both formal and informal/on-site settings. You are comfortable travelling frequently in difficult driving conditions and operating safely on construction sites and around heavy vehicles.

Essential Requirements

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent relevant working experience in civil project management.
  • Experience in development and delivery of projects, including the development of project plans, monitoring of project timelines, budgets and reporting requirements, and contract administration.
