POSITION TITLE: Spray Operator

REPORTS TO: Farm Manager

LOCATION: 20 Cassidys Road, Red Hills TASMANIA

CLASSIFICATION AND RENUMERATION: Horticulture Award L3 - Farming, Animals & Conservation

More experienced applicants will be paid accordingly.

TYPE OF POSITION:

Casual position

An employer superannuation contribution of 11.5 % will be added to the remuneration package.

Murrakei farms is in the picturesque farming area of Red Hills, in North-West Tasmania. We are proudly family-owned and operated with four generations of our family working on this land over the past century.

Our farm can be broken down into two main operations - a polytunnel berry farm, cropping and livestock.

ABOUT THE JOB:

The Spray Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient application of chemical and organic sprays to crops to control pests, weeds, and diseases. The spray operator will work in a team environment and will be responsible for ensuring that all spraying activities are carried out in accordance with established procedures and regulations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain spray equipment, including tractors, sprayers, and related equipment.
  • Mix and apply chemical, fertiliser and organic sprays to berry crops using appropriate techniques and equipment.
  • Monitor weather conditions and follow established procedures to ensure the safe and effective application of sprays.
  • Maintain accurate records of all spraying activities, including spray logs, equipment maintenance, and inventory control.
  • Communicate with Production Manager, Supervisors, and other team members to coordinate spraying activities and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Maintain a clean and organised work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:

  • Chem. Cert 3
  • Forklift Licence.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Knowledge of chemical and organic spraying techniques and equipment
  • Prior experience operating and maintaining spray equipment, preferably in a farming environment.
  • Experience in driving a tractor.
  • A National Police Record or a willingness to obtain.
