About the Position
As the Media and Communications Officer, you will be responsible for assisting in the preparation and implementation of effective media and communications activities to support the work of the University. The role facilitates links between the University and the media, responds to external media requests, and is responsible for sourcing content for, and writing media releases. In collaboration with other teams, the Media and Communications Officer will manage publicity and media events, including handling enquires and preparing materials to support the event.

The Media and Communications Officer will work with the Manager to develop, produce, distribute, and evaluate CDU external communications strategies to profile CDU to key stakeholders, including students, government, peak bodies, the media and the community. The role will provide accurate and timely writing and editing services for public documents including publications, newsletters, social media, advertisements, website content and media releases and speeches as required. The position involves regular meetings with various internal and external stakeholders and requires excellent verbal communication, public presentation and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage cross-functional relationships.

About You
To be successful, you will require:

  • Tertiary qualifications in communication or media disciplines or relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to write for a variety of audiences and for multiple outlets - including news articles, feature articles, online content, and social media.
  • Contemporary knowledge of, and experience in managing media and generating positive media exposure.
  • Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of communications and public relations methods and practices and proven experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating communications and public relations strategies and campaigns.
  • Proven ability to liaise effectively across all levels of a large organisation.
  • Highly developed planning and organisational skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure to manage and meet tight and competing deadlines.

Desirable competencies

  • Demonstrated understanding of the Northern Territory media market, as well as the Australian tertiary education market, including an understanding of contemporary issues.
  • Previous experience working as a journalist in a busy newsroom will be highly desired.

Remuneration
Appointment to this role will be at Professional Employee Level 7. The base salary will be in the range of $96,559 - $105,992 per annum. The total remuneration package will be in the range of $112,974 - $124,010 per annum, including 17% superannuation.
